Vitamin C: Worth the Hype (Derma E Review #sponsored)

If you’re not aware, my degree is originally in biology, and a masters as a physician assistant. I worked at the Cleveland clinic in acute care surgery, with a special concentration and wound care, and then excepted an internal transfer and worked in dermatology. I didn’t just work in dermatology; I saw patients independently in an outpatient clinic. In other words, I kind of know skincare. I’m a little picky about it, I am scrutinizing about the ingredients; after all, your skin is your largest organ and you wear it daily. Not only that, but clean beauty has become increasingly important to me not only for the environment but the awareness of how much our skin absorbs (and for moms, little fingers are always around!)

I was so excited to have the opportunity to review the vitamin C line of products from DermaE (#gifted)

All of the company’s products are 100% Vegan, GMO-Free, Cruelty Free and Free of parabens, sulfates, petrolatum, mineral oils, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfates. Only the good stuff.

Before I get into the specifics of the products that I test drove, let’s have a brief discussion on vitamin C. We hear a lot about it. It’s an a lot of citrus fruits; oranges get the most praise. But what exactly is the big deal, specifically when it comes to skin care?

Vitamin C is an antioxidant powerhouse helps guard against free radicals, which break down our collagen and elastin, leading to wrinkles and loss of firmness. It also helps to boost natural collagen production, brighten and even our skin tone. In other words, it both helps to treat and prevent signs of aging and sun damage.. But it can be tricky to find a skincare regimen that’s actually formulated to deliver all these benefits— as well as holds to clean beauty standards (and doesn’t break the bank, I might add).

The @dermae Vitamin C line delivers- formulating the most stabilized form of Vitamin C together with Vitamin E, which actually enhances its delivery.

Let’s start with the cleanser: i’m back on that over cleansing, and being gentle on your skin. The Vitamin C Brightening Rice + Tumeric Daily Cleanser is just that. It’s a very gentle paste (my skin is combination and slightly sensitive I would say)- not overly abrasive and works to reduce blemishes and enhance your skin’s natural glow.

At this stage in life (ahem, kids)- eye cream becomes critical. On especially sleep deprived days, I have been known to throw my eye cream in the fridge for a few minutes, slather it on my entire face as a rescue cream, then hook my coffee up to an IV (not really on the last part but the rest is absolutely true). The Derma E “Vitamin C No Dark Circles Perfecting Eye Cream” is the new favorite in my arsenal; it contains turmeric and mica to instantly color correct for brighter eyes, of course has vitamin C for brightening, and caffeine to bust the puff. If it could get my kids to sleep, it would be perfect.

It gets even better though- the Vitamin C Bright Eye Gel Pads hell fake 8 hours of sleep. I cannot tell you how wonderful these feel under your eyes after throwing them in the fridge for 10 minutes (again, this is my idea not the package instructions, ha). But these are packed with antioxidants and phytonutrients to transform puffy zombie eyes into bright eyes. I’m telling you, I will never not have these on hand again!

We hear all about retinols for anti-aging, but we also hear about how harsh they are. The derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum is a dream. This gentle, fast absorbing serum (which also smells wonderful I might add) absorbs quickly and can be layered under make up or any other moisturizer but delivers potent antioxidants and hydration with the benefits of brightening skin and promoting the health of collagen and elastin, both crucial for anti-aging. The best part? No nasty side effects.

If you give these products a test drive, be sure to let me know how you love them!
